Learn the Sailor Step

 "Sailor Step"

This is a Carolina Shag Step

Level: Beginner

Beats: 6

Steps: Behind / Step / Step / Behind / Step / Step / Rock Step

The Sailor Step is a two-count figure in Carolina Shag that often replaces a triple step. It involves a sequence of stepping behind, to the side, and then forward (or in place) with a weight change on each of those three steps. This sequence is typically done twice within the six-count basic rhythm, followed by the rock step.

Additional Notes: The "Behind / Step / Step" sequence happens relatively quickly over one count of the music (the "five-and-six" or "one-and-two").
