Join us for our exciting fall 2025 dance classes and learn to swing, shag, and have a blast! Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your moves, we have a class for you.

Powhatan, VA Classes

Location: War Memorial & Cultural Arts Center

2375 Skaggs Rd, Powhatan, VA 23139

Dates: Mondays, September 22nd - October 27th (6-week session)

Class Schedule:

Beginner Swing

Time: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Learn the fundamental steps and rhythms of swing dancing in a fun and supportive environment. No partner or experience necessary!

Intermediate Carolina Shag

Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Ready to take your shag to the next level? This class will build on your existing knowledge with new patterns and styling.

Colonial Heights, VA Classes

Location: Colonial Heights Optimist Bldg

916 Roanoke Ave, Colonial Heights, VA 23834

Dates: Wednesdays, September 24th - October 29th (6-week session)

Class Schedule:

Beginner Swing

Time: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Discover the joy of swing dancing! This extended beginner class provides ample time to master the basics. No partner or experience needed!

Intermediate Carolina Shag

Time: 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Enhance your Carolina Shag skills with new variations, styling tips, and advanced techniques in this in-depth intermediate class.

Exciting News!   We're thrilled to announce our plans to purchase a  Snaplock portable dance floor  for the Colonial Heights community. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we're one step closer to making this dream a reality. Our Vision Our goal is to create a valuable asset for the local dance community by establishing the Colonial Heights Swing Dance Club as a 501c(7) nonprofit organization. This will enable us to: Own the dance floor:  The floor will become a club asset, ensuring its long-term availability. Manage club finances:  We'll establish a board and a checking account to handle business transactions efficiently. Offer rentals:  The dance floor will be available for rent to the public for private events, dances, parties, and more. Exciting News! New Venue, New Classes, and a Big Thank You!

We're thrilled to share some fantastic updates about the Colonial Heights Swing Dance Club! First, the good news about our fundraising efforts: We're so close to our goal of $4,500 for the SnapLock portable dance floor! Thanks to your generous contributions, we're currently at $3,950. We're hopeful that we'll be able to order and receive the floor before the end of December. New Venue and Class Schedule: To accommodate our new dance floor, we're excited to announce that we'll be moving our classes to the  Colonial Heights Optimist Building  starting in January 2025. This new venue will allow us to make some exciting improvements to our class offerings: Earlier Start Time:  Classes will now begin at 6:00 PM, giving you more time to enjoy the evening. Underhill's Swing and Shag Dance Collective ( www.swingandshagdancecollective.com ), in partnership with the War Memorial Cultural Arts & Community Center, a valued hub for arts and community engagement in Powhatan , is thrilled to announce FREE beginner Swing dance classes starting on Monday, September 22nd, 2025! Whether you have two left feet or are looking for a fun way to get active, this welcoming and energetic 6-week series is the perfect place to learn the foundational steps of lively Swing dancing. The Carolina Shag, a smooth and stylish dance popular in the Carolinas, is actually a derivative of Swing.
